SENATOR CONNIE SIPES ENDORSES JILL LONG THOMPSON FOR GOVERNOR
ARGOS, Ind. - Citing her commitment to Indiana's working families, today State Senator Connie Sipes (D-New Albany) officially endorsed Jill Long Thompson for Governor.
"Jill Long Thompson will make an outstanding Governor and I am proud to offer my support," said Sipes. "Her background as a professional educator, a farmer, a Congresswoman and Under Secretary of Agriculture has prepared her for the challenges she will face as Indiana's next Governor."
"As a teacher myself, I am especially impressed with Jill's understanding and dedication to improving our education system and lowering the dropout rate," added Sipes.
A former principal at Fairmont Elementary School in New Albany, Sipes is a leading voice on education and health care issues in the State Senate. She serves on a number of important committees including the Senate's Education & Career Development Committee; Tax & Fiscal Policy; Natural Resources, Transportation & Veterans Affairs and; Health & Provider Service Committees.
"I am so proud to have Connie Sipes on my side," said Long Thompson. "Throughout her career as a teacher, principal and state legislator she has worked tirelessly to make Indiana a better place. Sipes is the latest in an impressive list of organizations, elected officials and party leaders who are backing Long Thompson's candidacy.
Earlier this week Lake County Sheriff Roy Dominguez and former State Senator and 1984 Democratic gubernatorial Wayne Townsend announced their support. Last week former Indiana First Lady Maggie Kernan and seven more state legislators endorsed Long Thompson's candidacy.
She had previously earned the support of 22 Indiana mayors, former Congressmen Andy Jacobs Jr. and Dave Evans, the United Steelworkers, the Service Employee International Union, Communication Workers of America, the American Federation of Government Employees, the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, the United Transportation Union and Local #446 of Association of Federal, State, County and Municipal Employees and six Indiana Teamsters locals.
